In what marked a day of recognition of football talents across Europe, FC Barcelona Femeni had two of its members nominated as recipients of the award. Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati was nominated for the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award, while head coach Jonatan Giraldez was nominated for the UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year award.

Barcelona and Spain’s Women’s national team midfielder, Aitana Bonmati, was crowned the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year for the first time. Bonmati received the award as a reward for her excellent performance in the recently concluded season.

The Spanish midfielder had an incredible season both domestically and internationally. She was a key member of a Barcelona side that won the Liga F, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League titles. She also put up an amazing display in the FIFA Women’s World Cup when she represented Spain in their historic World Cup winning campaign. The 25-year-old was named the UEFA Player of the Season in the Champions League and the Most Valuable Player in the World Cup.

Aitana Bonmati scored 14 goals and made 18 assists for Barcelona across all competitions in the 2022-2023 season. She contributed three goals and two assists to Spain’s World Cup triumph.

Aitana Bonmati won the award ahead of Chelsea and Australia’s Sam Kerr, and Spanish teammate and Real Madrid’s Olga Carmona.
