Aitana, Patri, Rolfo, Paralluelo, Oshoala, Mapi Leon nominated for Ballon d’Or

Ballon d'Or trophy

The list of nominees for the 2023 Ballon d’Or has been released, and Barcelona Femeni has six players on that list. The nominees were announced yesterday, September 6, 2023, and thirty players made the shortlist.

Among those nominated for the Women’s category were Aitana Bonmati, Patri Guijarro, Fridolina Rolfo, Salma Paralluelo, Asisat Oshoala, and Mapi Leon.

A noticeable absence from the list is Alexia Putellas, the current holder and two time winner, who failed to make the nominations due to an ACL injury that kept her sidelined for the majority of the season.

However, club and national teammate, Aitana Bonmati is the favorite to win the award following her performances in the previous season. The Spanish midfielder was recently named the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year last month, after a World Cup winning campaign with Spain.

Aitana Bonmati had an incredible season both domestically and internationally with Barcelona and the Spanish national team. She won the Liga F, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, and also put up an amazing display in the FIFA Women’s World Cup when she represented Spain in their historic World Cup winning campaign. The 26-year-old was named the UEFA Player of the Season in the Champions League and the Most Valuable Player in the World Cup.

It remains to be seen who will be announced as the winner of the 2023 Ballon d’Or at the award ceremony, which is set to take place on October 30.
