Barcelona Femeni had their biggest win of the season on Sunday night after trashing Sevilla 8-0 at the Estadi Johan Cryuff. The league champions put up an amazing performance as they continued the defense of their league crown.

With a display worthy of being a masterclass in attacking football, the Blaugrana totally dominated their opponent and showed exactly why they were awarded the Team of the Year at the Ballon d’Or.

Barcelona secured all three points on the night thanks to goals from Salma Paralluelo (4), Mariona Caldentey (2), Caroline Graham Hansen, and Marta Torrejon.

First Half

Like every home game played thus far this season, Barcelona were right on the throats of their opposition from the start of the game. The champions showed great attacking performance, as it took them only seven minutes to open the scoring.

The third-place winner at the Ballon d’Or, Salma Paralluelo, opened the scoring for the Catalan side when she met Graham Hansen’s low cross across the face of goal. The teenager opened the scoring in what would be another Barcelona rout at home in Liga F.

Barcelona continued to press the opposition in search of more goals, and they were rewarded for their efforts in the 17th minute when Lucy Bronze’s cross was headed home at the farpost once again by Salma. The goal came after the Sevilla goalkeeper kept out Aitana Bonmati’s attempt; however, the loose ball fell to Bronze, who whipped in a perfect cross at the far post for the teenager to score her and Barcelona’s second goal of the game.

Caroline Graham Hansen and Mariona Caldentey came close to scoring but saw their attempts on goal saved by the goalkeeper. However, the Norwegian would turn provider once more when she delivered an inch-perfect cross that found Salma Paralluelo right in front of goal to put Barcelona three goals up in the 37th minute of the game.

At this point, the teenager had completed her hattrick in the first half, proving her lethality and ruthlessness in front of goal.

However, the teenage sensation still had more to offer when she dinked the ball past the onrushing Sevilla goalie for her fourth goal of the night after a wonderful throughball over the top from Graham Hansen.

With four goals in 40 minutes, the young Barcelona forward had already sealed the deal and delivered all three points to the Blaugrana at halftime.

Second Half

Barcelona picked up where they left off in the second half as they continued to show their hunger for more goals right from the restart of the game. The intensity with which the champions played proved to be too demanding for their opponents, as the league leaders put four more goals past them in the second half.

Shortly after the restart, Mariona Caldentey scored Barcelona’s fifth goal of the game after the Sevilla defense failed to identify the danger lurking in the box from Graham Hansen’s corner kick delivery.

In the 54th minute, Mariona hit a brace after firing on goal following a failed attempt to clear the ball by the Sevilla defense. The forward saw her shot hit the back of the net despite the goalkeeper’s attempt at making a save.

Barcelona kept pressing in search of more, and they got more. Caroline Graham Hansen went from provider to goalscorer when she met Alexia’s low cross into the box in the 58th minute.

Substitutions were made, and four-goal hero Salma Paralluelo, Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati, and Lucy Bronze were all given a rest and replaced by Claudia Pina, Asisat Oshoala, and Marta Torrejon.

Late in the game, the Nigerian forward hit the crossbar after attempting an audacious chip over the goalie.

However, Barcelona still scored their eighth goal of the game when two of the substitutes combined in the latter stage of the game. Dutch midfielder Esmee Brugts delivered a sumptuous cross that was headed home by Marta Torrejon in the 90th minute.

Barcelona ended the game 8-0 winners over Sevilla and set the tone for a busy month that would see them resume the defense of their Champions League crown.

Barcelona Femeni’s next game will be played on November 11, when they play Villareal away from home in the Liga F.
