A win over Sporting Huelva could see Barcelona crowned as Liga F champions

After defeating Chelsea in the semifinals of the UWCL, the next game for Barcelona comes against Liga F side, Sporting Huelva. The UWCL finalists will play their 26th league game of the season. A game in which a win could see them crowned as champions of the competition for the 8th time in their history.

Barcelona, who are yet to lose a single league game this season, travel to Sporting Huelva on the back of a 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid. A win over Sporting would see the league leaders confirmed as the new champions of the division with 4 games in hand.

Sporting Huelva, in 12th position in the league, would be hoping for a win against the league leaders to completely avoid the relegation zone.

Head to head

Both sides have played against each other 6 times with Barcelona winning all six games. The game on Sunday would be their second clash this season with Barca winning the first leg 4-0.

Last 5 games

Barcelona has won her last 5 Liga F matches. But the same cannot be said for Sporting Huelva who won 1, drew 1, and lost 3 of their last 5 games in the league.

Player to watch out for

Barcelona is more likely to field a much-rotated squad, after back-to-back Champions League games against Chelsea.

However, much focus would be placed on the return of Alexia Putellas whose return from injury was announced earlier on Wednesday. Barcelona who received a major boost right before their game against Chelsea will finally be able to play with Alexia Putellas who has been sidelined for almost 10 months due to an ACL injury.

The captain was unable to make an appearance at the Spotify Camp Nou in midweek, considering the intensity of the game. And for a player just returning from a long-term injury, the risk was unnecessary.

However, not playing a single game since getting injured in July 2022, the two-time Ballon d’Or and FIFA The Best winner would be itching to get back on the grass. With the league campaign almost wrapped up, the champions-elect should have no problem giving the captain an appearance and quickly integrating her back into the team. Thus, keeping her match fit and ready for the final in Eindhoven come June.

Injuries

Barcelona would be without the services of Lucy Bronze who just had an arthroscopic surgery done on her right knee after getting injured while playing against Chelsea in London.

Fridolina Rolfo also misses out due to discomfort in her right knee. She is off against Sporting Huelva and the evolution will mark her availability for the upcoming games.
