Barcelona Femeni delivered an incredible performance yesterday when they defeated Levante Las Planas 9-1 in the Liga F. The champions took charge of the Catalan derby and dominated their opponents from start to finish. The team secured their biggest win this season with a display showing their lethality and ruthlessness in front of goal.

Salma Paralluelo opened the scoring five minutes after kickoff before Mariona Caldentey converted from the penalty spot few minutes later. Aitana Bonmati also got on the scoresheet and Caroline Graham Hansen continued her fine form this season scoring Barcelona’s fourth goal on the stroke of halftime.

The second half saw six goals in total with Barcelona scoring five of those courtesy of early goals from Claudia Pina and a brace from Patri Guijarro whose first goal was the pick of the bunch. Vicky Lopez and Asisat Oshoala also came off the bench to score for Barcelona in the dying minutes of the game.

Allegria Pollack took advantage of Ingrid Engen’s complacency at the back to get a consolation goal for her team.

Here are a few things that were noticed during the game:

The biggest win of the season

Over the course of the season, we have seen Barcelona pummel the opposition time and again with games ending with a huge difference in the sccoreline. We’ve seen 6-0 against Villareal, 7-0 against Rosengard in the Champions League, and 8-0 against Sevilla, but the 9-1 win against Levante Las Planas is the biggest so far this season.

The team kept scoring until the last minute completey dominating the game and dictating the game’s tempo and intensity. The win could not have come at a better time than the first game of the new year, thus, sending a bold statement win to their oppositions that they should not be messed with.

The dynamic duo strikes again

Aitana Bonmati and Caroline Graham Hansen have combined to score lots of incredible goals for Barcelona this season and last night’s game was another of such occassion. The duo exchanged passes on the edge of the box before the Spanish midifielder finished the move with a beautiful goal. The Ballon d’Or winner executed a beautiful turn to evade her marker before firing a low shot to the bottom corner of the goal.

Paredes returns from injury

Barcelona received a major boost during the week when veteran defender Irene Paredes resumed training after her spell on the sidelines due to injury. The Blaugrana has had troubles with injuries to their key defenders this season, and seeing Paredes return to action is good news for Barcelona, who lost Mapi Leon to a knee injury late last year.

While the news of Paredes’s return from injury is music to the ears of the Blaugrana faithful, the huge win was saddened by another injury to Marta Torrejon. The veteram defender was forced off after suffering an injury to her foot. Marta went in for a tackle and came off the worst of both players and was eventually replaced with the newly declared fit Irene Paredes.

Barcelona Femeni’s next game is a quarterfinal clash against Fundacion Albacete in the Copa de la Reina on January 13.
