Martina Fernandez is a professional female football player who plays for FC Barcelona Femeni. She was born on October 1, 2004, in Ordis, a municipality in the district of Alt Empordà, Girona, Catalonia, Spain.

Although Martina Fernandez plays for the youth team as a midfielder, the 19-year-old has made a few appearances with the senior team over the course of three seasons, even winning a Spanish League and Cup title in the 2021–2022 season. However, the young player, who only played a total of 148 minutes in five matches in the previous two seasons, has experienced a change of fortune this season.

Unexpected injuries to the Blaugranas preferred centre-back pairing have seen the young player selected for games in which she has made a total of six appearances in all competitions for Barcelona Femeni. Four of those appearances came in the Liga F and the other two in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where she scored on her debut.

Although the young defender played as a midfielder for the youth team, it is at the center-back position that she has shone brilliantly so far this season. She has formed an excellent pairing with Ingrid Engen, who has also been retracted from the midfield to replace the injured centre-backs.

Out of six appearances made for Barcelona, the team conceded only once in a 6-1 win over Granada. The goal, however, was scored in additional time, long after the youngster was substituted in the 65th minute.

Martina Fernandez also played in Barcelona’s 4-0 win against Athletic Club, the 5-0 victory over Eibar, the 2-0 win away at Tenerife, and in both of their last two Champions League fixtures against Rosengard.

Martina Fernandez will be very important for Barcelona this season, especially with Mapi Leon’s injury that has ruled her out of the season
