Barcelona Femeni had their biggest away win of the season when they defeated Villareal 6-0 on Saturday in the Liga F. The league champions delivered a spectacular performance against Villareal despite the heavy rotations made to the squad in preparation for their Champions League opener. The win secured Barcelona’s three points on the night and helped maintain their position at the top of the league standings.

Goals from Aitana Bonmati (2), Asisat Oshoala (2), Salma Paralluelo, and a deflected own goal gave Barcelona the huge win.

Here are a few things that were noticed during the game:

Away woes are over

Prior to this huge win against Villareal, all of Barcelona’s away games this season have ended as low-scoring games, with the 2-0 win against Madrid CFF being the highest scoreline so far.

There were worries over Barcelona’s lack of goals away from home, as the team always handed down heavy defeats to their opponents at the Estadi Johan Cryuff.

However, against Villareal, Barcelona seemed to have found their scoring boots when playing away from home, and this revival could not come at a better time than it did with the resumption of the Champions League just a couple days away.

Ready for Europe

The match against Villareal happens to be the last league game before the Champions League resumes. Barcelona will have received a morale boost with the 6-0 victory away from home ahead of their European clash with Benfica.

With Benfica visiting the Estadi Johan Cryuff on Tuesday night, Barcelona could not be better prepared to receive the Portuguese side.

A brace of braces

Last week against Sevilla, the highlight of the game was Salma Paralluelo’s four goals in the first half and Mariona Caldentey’s brace in the second. This week against Villareal, Aitana Bonmati and Asisat Oshoala scored two goals each.

The convenience of at least one player scoring twice in a game indicates the exceptional performance the team has been displaying lately. Should the braces keep coming, Barcelona can rest assured of scoring enough goals to see them through the season.

Barcelona’s next game is a Champions League clash against Benfica at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Tuesday, November 14.
