FC Barcelona Femeni, the Liga F champions, take to the field tomorrow to play their 28th league game of the season. In a quest to complete the season unbeaten and with a run of winning all 30 games.
On Matchday 29, Barcelona will pay a visit to Sevilla FC for an opportunity to extend and maintain their unbeaten record in the league. Barcelona, who last lost a league game against Atletico Madrid in June 2021, has since remained undefeated in the league. The team has won every single game in Liga F since their last loss and would be looking to repeat their last season feat of winning all 30 league games played in the season.
The Blaugrana have played 27 games so far, scoring 113 goals, a record that shows their impeccable attacking ability. Barcelona last faced Sevilla on January 7 in their first encounter in the league. A match that the Blaugrana won 4-0. Barcelona were up by two goals at halftime courtesy of goals from Asisat Oshoala and Claudia Pina, with the latter even missing a penalty late in the half. Player to watch out for
Barcelona will be fielding a rotated squad, considering that they’ve already won the league and some players need to get some rest while others need to enjoy more playing time.
However, much focus would be placed on Alexia Putellas, who might possibly make the starting eleven in this fixture. The club captain and fans’ favorite returned from injury in time to make the matchday squad against Chelsea in the second leg of the UWCL semi-finals. Barcelona, who received a major boost right before their game against Chelsea, will finally be able to play with Alexia Putellas, who has been sidelined for almost 10 months due to an ACL injury.
The two-time Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best Player of the Year would be hoping to get some minutes against Real Sociedad. In her last appearance against Sporting de Huelva, the captain had a brief cameo in which she performed well. However, it was obvious she still lacked match fitness and would require more game time to shake off the rustiness and be fully ready. She also participated in the match against Real Sociedad; however, these short appearances are good for getting the skipper back in shape but not enough to get her back to the form and full fitness she had prior to her injury.
With the league campaign already wrapped up, the champions should have no problem giving the captain an appearance and quickly integrating her back into the team.
Injuries
Barcelona continue to be without the services of Lucy Bronze, who had to undergo an arthroscopic surgery on her right knee after getting injured while playing against Chelsea in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinal.
