San Mames experienced a beautiful moment on Thursday night when Athletic Club hosted Barcelona Femeni in the first leg of the Copa de la Reina semifinals. The Catalan giants were superior on the night and totally dominated the game from start to finish.
Aitana Bonmati opened the scoring for Barcelona in 14th minute with a beautiful goal from outside the box. Claudia Pina passed to the Ballon d’Or winner, who found the top corner from outside the box with her left foot.
Three minutes later, the World’s Best Player doubled Barcelona’s lead when she scored her second goal of the game. A brilliant exchange of passes between Aitana Bonmati and Caroline Graham Hansen lead to the former firing a drop shot over the goalkeeper from inside the box.
Barcelona tried to score another goal and secure their lead with Claudia Pina and Ingrid Engen coming close to scoring for the Blaugrana.
The first half ended with Barcelona two goals up and on the verge of heading into the second leg with an advantage.
However, Barcelona did not score again until the 72nd minute when Salma Paralluelo finished inside the box after being teed up by Patri Guijarro.
Salma almost scored the fourth goal for Barcelona in the last minute of the game. However, the young forward’s delicate chip sailed harmlessly over the crossbar.
The second leg of the clash will take place on March 14 at the Estadi Johan Cryuff.
