Barcelona Femeni completed a domestic double yesterday when they defeated Real Sociedad in the final of the Copa de la Reina. The Blaugrana routed the opposition 8-0 in a rampant display of attacking football to claim the Spanish Cup for themselves once again.

Barcelona were disqualified from the competition last season after fielding an ineligible player and thus lost their hold on the title. However, the Catalan giants were utterly ruthless in the final when they dismantled Real Sociedad to reclaim the title once again.

Barcelona scored five goal in the first half and added another three in the second half to secure the trophy. Ona Batlle opened the scoring for the Blaugrana, before Salma Paralluelo added to the tally. Caroline Graham Hansen then scored a brace in quick succession before Ona Batlle completed her brace as well late into the first half.

In the second half, Mariona Caldentey added to the goal tally after being teed up wonderfully by Salma Paralluelo. Mariona Caldentey turned provider when she set up Claudia Pina for the team’s seventh goal. Caldentey then scored the last goal of the game when she completed her brace after benefitting from a defensive error.

Barcelona Femeni, who earlier lifted the league title qith games to spare has now completed the domestic double, thus, partially completing their objectives for the season. The next target for the Spanish champions is the UEFA Women’s Champions League title to complete another historic treble.

Barcelona will play in the final of the Champions League in Bilbao on May 25 where they will be locking horns with Olympique Lyonnais for a chance to retain their hold on the much coveted European title.
