Barcelona Femeni are one huge step closer to their ninth Liga F title after defeating Madrid CFF 8-0 in their 25th league game of the season. The Blaugrana ripped their visitors apart with a wonderful display of attacking football. A first-half exhibition that saw them score five goals and another brilliant display in the second half that saw them score three more goals before the final whistle helped the Catalan giants maintain their 12-point lead at the top of the table.
With four games left to play in the league this season, Barcelona are one win away from retaining the Liga F title. A win in their next game against Granada would see Barcelona win the Spanish league title for the ninth time.
Following their victory in the Champions League semifinal, Barcelona played their league game against Madrid CFF with a heavily rotated squad, with key players like Aitana Bonmati, Salma Paralluelo, and Caroline Graham Hansen left out of the starting lineup.
However, the Catalan side has more than enough firepower in their squad to deliver a heavy blow to their opponents. Goals from Alexia Putellas, Mariona Caldentey, Claudia Pina,Vicky Lopez, and Esmee Brugts put their victory beyond doubt at half time. In the second half, a brace from Marta Torrejon and a late goal from Ona Batlle buried the Madrid outfit completely.
Barcelona’s next game will be played away from home on May 4, when they face Granada in a clash where a victory will help them successfully defend their league crown.
