The inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League tournament was brought to an end yesterday in Seville where Spain faced France in the final. The World Cup winners lifted the title after defeating the French national team 2-0 in regulation time.

Both sides came into the game off the back of semifinal victories against the Netherlands and Germany. However, whe both giants met in the Nation’s League final, Spain proved to be the better team and defeated France with goals coming from Barcelona Femeni players Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldentey.

Spain dominated the game from kickoff and constantly threatened the French goal. However, despite their dominance, goals were hard to come by for the World Champions until the World’s Best Player burst forth and scored the opener. Aitana Bonmati arrived in the box and fired in Olga Carmona’s cross from close range, opening the scoring in the first half.

Later in the second half, the Barcelona duo combined to score Spain’s second goal, which turned out to be the match-winner. Ona Batlle’s cross was turned into the back of the net by Mariona Caldentey, putting Spain two goals ahead.
