Barcelona Femeni recorded another win in the league after defeating Sevilla 3-0 on Matchday 16. A rotated Barca squad that rested some of its key players struggled to score in the first half despite having the lion’s share of the ball possession.
Claudia Pina opened the scoring with the first shot of the game in the 17th minute to put Barcelona ahead in the first half.
Barca failed to double their lead in the first half despite chances from Aitana Bonmati, Mariona Caldentey, and Vicky Lopez. Barcelona were unable to find their way past a resilient Sevilla side and ended the half with the lone goal advantage.
The game restarted with Barcelona dominating the game but still being unable to double their lead. However, a couple of substitutions from Barcelona was all it took to break Sevilla’s resistance.
Barca brought on Caroline Graham Hansen and Salma Paralluelo in the 68th minute and it took just three minutes for the firmer to score Barcelona’s second goal of the game.
Aitana Bonmati whipped in a perfect delivery that required the slightest of touches from the Norwegian to double Barca’s lead.
Two minutes later, Barcelona scored the third goal courtesy of Mariona Caldentey. After receiving pass from Graham Hansen, Aitana Bonmati, unable to shoot on goal herself, laid up the ball for an onrushing Mariona Caldentey to finish.
The game ended 3-0 in favor of Barcelona, who defeated Sevilla twice in four days following their midweek 8-0 victory over the Seville side.
