Barcelona Femeni forward Asisat Oshoala presented her award as the African Women’s Player of the Year in front of the home crowd tonight before kickoff. It is always a joyful scene when a player presents an award to her colleagues, the club’s staff, and the fans before a game. In recent years, we have seen such beautiful scenery again and again, with Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati presenting their various individual awards to the Blaugrana faithful.

Asisat Oshoala celebrated winning the CAF Women’s Player of the Year again, sharing the moment with the fans at the Estadi Johan Cryuff just minutes before kickoff. Being the recipient of the award in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, and now in 2023, the Nigerian forward has now set a record of winning the award six times in her illustrious career.

Barcelona Femeni’s top goalscorer last season has been unavailable for selection due to an injury. Having only just returned from injury in their league game against Granadilla Tenerife during the weekend, the striker started tonight’s match on the bench and was brought in as a substitute to replace Aitana Bonmati.
