A few hours ago, FIFA announced the nominations for the eighth edition of the The Best FIFA Football Awards, and it is no surprise to see a host of Barcelona Femeni stars make the list.
The nominations put seven Barcelona Femeni members, including head coach Jonatan Giraldez, in position to win awards across various categories. Aitana Bonmati, Mapi Leon, Salma Paralluelo, Keira Walsh, Cata Coll, and Sandra Panos are the selected nominees from FC Barcelona Femeni.
According to FIFA, a panel of football experts made the nomination based on the achievements of the candidates during the respective award eligibility periods.
The Best FIFA Women’s Player Nominees
This category put four of Barcelona’s stars up against twelve other nominees from different clubs and countries. The selected four include Aitana Bonmati, Mapi Leon, Salma Paralluelo, and Keira Walsh.
Aitana Bonmati remains the favorite to win the award, with her achievements last season coupled with her performances for Spain in the World Cup winning campaign.
The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper Nominees
This category put two Barcelona players up against five other nominees from different clubs and countries. The selected two are Sandra Panos and Cata Coll.
Panos for her achievements in the 2022–2023 season as first choice goalkeeper for Barcelona, and Coll for her World Cup heroics with Spain.
The Best FIFA Women’s Coach Nominees
Barcelona Femeni head coach Jonatan Giraldez was nominated in this category with four others, including Sarina Wiegman, Emma Hayes, Peter Gerhardsson, and Tony Gustavsson.
The chances of Giraldez winning the award for this category are very slim considering the performances of the other nominees at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Where to vote
Voting is now open across the various categories, and fans from all over the world can now vote for their choice on FIFA’s digital platforms from Thursday, September 14 until midnight CET on Friday, October 6.
