Alexia scores her first goal since her return from injury

Barcelona’s captain Alexia Putellas returned from injury in April, just in time to make the matchday squad for their UWCL semifinal second leg against Chelsea. Since then, the two-time Ballon d’Or winner has been receiving a fair amount of game time to help her regain form and match fitness.

In their last game against Madrid CFF, she came on as a substitute to score Barcelona’s only goal of the game. It was her first goal since returning from a long-term ACL injury that kept her out of action for 10 months.

Barcelona dealt another injury blow

Barcelona’s top scorer, Asisat Oshoala is in doubt for the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in Eindhoven. The Nigerian striker was forcefully subbed off very early in their game against Madrid CFF.  The striker was quickly replaced as a precaution after she was seen holding her hamstring. Barcelona would be hoping that the injury is not too serious in order for the striker to feature on June 3 in the UWCL final against Wolfsburg.

This injury comes in as an unplanned addition to the list of currently injured players. With  Lucy Bronze and Fridolina Rolfo, key members of the Barcelona squad still out due to injury, Oshoala’s injury couldn’t possibly come at a worse time.

Lucy Bronze is still out after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on her right knee, an injury she suffered in the first leg of the UWCL semi-final clash against Chelsea.

Vicky Lopez to play in UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship final

Barcelona’s teenage midfield sensation, Vicky Lopez will play in the UEFA Women’s U17 Championship final against France in Estonia tomorrow. The 16 years old will be leading the Spanish national team in a bid to win the coveted youth title.

Lopez scored the opening goal in the semi-final against England’s U17 team, a game the La Roja won 3-1. The goal against England was the youngster’s third goal of the competition. The final will take place at 04:00 UTC.
