FC Barcelona Femeni played their first pre-season game at the Estadi Johan Cruyff against Montpellier earlier today and came out 2-0 winners over the French side.

The game is only the first of three preseason games scheduled by the Spanish and European champions before the start of the domestic Spanish league, Liga F, in the middle of September. The Catalan giants were without most of their first-team players due to the majority representing their various nations in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Although some of the players have returned to training, they are yet to be fully integrated with the team after spending their break playing in the World Cup tournament. As a result, Barcelona’s starting lineup against Montpellier was a mixture of veterans and young players.

The first goal of the game came after just two minutes of play, courtesy of La Masia player Alba Cano. The Blaugrana then went in search of more goals but failed to score until the 90th minute, when another La Masia player, Laia Martet, scored the second goal of the game.

Up next for Barcelona Femeni is the Mexican Tour, where they will be facing Club América Femenil and Tigres Femenil on August 29 and September 1, respectively.
