Progressing to the semifinals of the Copa de la Reina proved to be a cake walk for Barcelona Femeni as they ruthlessly put Sevilla to the sword in their quarterfinal clash. The Blaugrana were utterly ruthless in attack and showed ultimate lethality ending the game with an 8-0 victory over their opponents.
Although Barca looked out of sorts in the first five minutes with Sevilla taking the game by its horn, once the Catalans scored the opener, they clicked into gear and did not look back until the end of the game.
It took six minutes for Barca to open the scoring and the goal came off a deflection from Salma Paralluelo’s shot on the edge of the box.
Paralluelo was once again influential in Barcelona’s second goal when she released Mariona with a brilliant through pass. The Barca number 9 then squared the ball for Aitana Bonmati to finish from close range.
In similar fashion to the second goal, Barcelona got their third goal two minutes later. Salma Paralluelo played in Vicky Lopez, who then played a pass across the face of goal for Mariona Caldentey to finish at the far post.
Barcelona were awarded a penalty in the 32nd minute for a foul on Aitana Bonmati in the penalty area. Mariona Caldentey stepped up and calmly finished from 12 yards to put Barca 4-0 up.
Four minutes later, Salma Paralluelo arrived at the far post to finish Mariona Caldentey’s pass from close range and score Barcelona’s fifth goal.
Barca hit Sevilla for six in the 40th minute when Vicky Lopez squared the ball for Caroline Graham Hansen to finish from close range.
With the game already beyond saving for Sevilla, Barcelona cruised through the second half in style. Aitana Bonmati scored the seventh goal for Barca in the 58th minute with an easy finish from close range after the goalkeeper spilled the ball from Salma Paralluelo’s header.
Substitute Ari Arias scored Barcelona’s eighth goal in the 77th minute after being assisted by Ona Batlle.
The game ended 8-0 in favor of Barcelona Femeni, who have now secured a spot in the competition’s semifinals.
