Barcelona Femeni played their second group stage game in the UEFA Women’s Champions League against Eintracht Frankfurt. The defending champions faced the German side away from home and emerged 3-1 winners at the end of the game.

The clash happened to be the first of its kind between both sides, with Frankfurt making their first appearance in the competition this season.

Prior to the match, both sides had three points each following opening day victories over Benfica and Rosengard, with Barcelona sitting on top of the group standings with goal difference after their 5-0 rout of the Portuguese side.

Despite the scoreline, Barcelona did not have it easy away from home as the Blaugrana had to force their way back into the game after going behind at halftime.

Frankfurt scored the opener in the 42nd minute of the game courtesy of a header from Laura Friegeng. The forward pounced on a cross into the box after Barcelona failed to deal with a corner kick.

Barcelona pulled a comeback in the second half to win the game with a goal from Mariona Caldentey, and a brace of goals from Salma Paralluelo. The Blaugrana came into the second half firing on all cylinders and were soon rewarded for their efforts.

In the 48th minute, Salma Paralluelo fired Ona Batlle’s low cross home from close range after evading her marker to free herself in the box. Batlle’s decisive run down the left flank saw her evade two opposition defenders before cutting a pass back into the path of the young forward for Barcelona’s leveler.

Eleven minutes later, Mariona Caldentey gave Barcelona the lead, after pouncing on a loose ball in the box. Frankfurt failed to clear Lucy Bronze’s header from a Barcelona corner kick allowing Mariona to pounce on the loose ball and put Barcelona ahead.

Salma Paralluelo scored her second goal of the game securing all three points for Barcelona in the 62nd minute after being assisted by Aitana Bonmati. The Ballon d’Or winner’s cutback found Paralluelo right in front of goal, and the 20-year-old was never going to miss from that range.

Barcelona pulled a comeback in the second half to win the game and secure all three points. With two wins out of two games played, Barcelona now sit alone at the top of the group’s standings with six points.

  1. I do love the manner in which you have presented this specific concern plus it does indeed provide us some fodder for consideration. Nonetheless, because of what precisely I have observed, I basically trust when the commentary pile on that men and women keep on point and in no way embark upon a tirade involving the news of the day. Yet, thank you for this excellent point and whilst I can not necessarily concur with the idea in totality, I value the perspective.
