The annual FIFA The Best Awards are set to take place again this year, and the nominations for the finalists have been released. Just like every other award nomination earlier this year, Aitana Bonmati has once again found her name on the list of the top three for the Best Women’s Player category.

The Spanish midfielder is one of three to make the final cut, with the other two players being Linda Caicedo and Jennifer Hermoso.

Aitana Bonmati is reaping the fruits of her incredible performance in the 2022/2023 season, where she distinguished herself as the very best among her peers while winning the Spanish Liga F and the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona Femeni before going on to lift the World Cup with the Spanish National Team in the summer.

The initial nominations featured four Barcelona Femeni stars, namely Aitana Bonmati, Mapi Leon, Salma Paralluelo, and Keira Walsh. However, only Aitana Bonmati made the cut for the last three and is the favorite to win the award.

Aitana Bonmati received her first individual award this year in August, when she was named UEFA’s Best Women Player. She also won the Ballon d’Or in October following her stellar performance in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

The World Cup winner came into the spotlight at Barcelona last season after replacing the injured Alexia Putellas in midfield. Aitana Bonmati scored 14 goals and made 18 assists for Barcelona across all competitions in the 2022-2023 season. She contributed three goals and two assists to Spain’s World Cup triumph.

Now in contention for the Best Player award, Aitana Bonmati is the favorite player to lift the award not only for her performance last season but also for her incredible start to the new season. Despite going through a rough patch at the start of the season, Aitana Bonmati has since picked herself up and gained a return to form, contributing 8 goals and 5 assists for Barcelona Femeni so far in all competitions while contributing 4 goals and 1 assist for the national team.

Being named the Best Women’s Player at the FIFA Awards will serve as a symbol of recognition and another indicator of excellence for the Santa de Pribes-born midfielder.
