The Best FIFA Football Awards took place last night in London, and Barcelona Femeni was not left behind in the ceremony designed to recognize football talents across the globe. The major highlight of the night was Barcelona Femeni and Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati receiving the award for Best Women’s Player of the Year, ahead of Jennifer Hermoso and Linda Caicedo, who also made the final three-man shortlist.

Aitana Bonmati was crowned the award for the first time in her illustrious career after completing an all-conquering year with Barcelona Femeni and the Spanish Women’s National Team. The Spanish midfielder had an incredible season both domestically and internationally, being a key member of a Barcelona side that won the Liga F and the UEFA Women’s Champions League titles. She also put up an amazing display in the FIFA Women’s World Cup when she represented Spain in their historic World Cup-winning campaign, where the 26-year-old was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Earlier in October 2023, Aitana Bonmati was named the Ballon d’Or winner in the women’s category, beating Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and fellow teammate Salma Paralluelo to the prestigious award.

Aitana Bonmati scored 14 goals and made 18 assists for Barcelona across all competitions in the 2022-2023 season. She contributed three goals and two assists to Spain’s World Cup triumph. The midfielder has also shown her brilliance this season with 9 goals and 8 assists across all competitions.

The World’s Best Player also made the FIFPRO 11 alongside Barcelona Femeni teammates Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh.
